Sunrise breathwork on an open-air pavilion overlooking the palms of Ubud

Ubud · Bali · Since 2008

Where Bali breathesyou back to stillness

Ancestral healing hands, botanical oils pressed on the island, and open-air pavilions that open onto the rice fields. Every ritual is shaped around the body that walks in.

Our philosophy

Healing here is a practice, not a package

Spa Fans Bali began as a family compound in Sanggingan where neighbours came for boreh when the rains turned cold. We kept the recipes, the pace and the pavilion — and added nothing that would get in the way of them.

01
Grown, not shipped
Oils, scrubs and jamu tonics are pressed weekly from gardens within twenty kilometres of the sanctuary.
02
Taught, not trained
Our therapists learned urat work from their families in Bangli and Karangasem before they ever wore a uniform.
03
Unhurried by design
Only nine rooms, never back-to-back. Your ritual ends when your breath settles, not when a timer sounds.

Signature rituals

Treatments shaped by the island

Each one draws on a remedy that was here long before we were — adjusted to the body on the table.

Lemongrass and pandan steam followed by a petal soak, taken alone or as the closing act of any ritual.

The journey

Four movements, one afternoon

Every visit follows the same quiet arc, whether you booked forty-five minutes or the whole day.

  1. 1

    Arrival & welcome tea

Sandals off, feet washed in lemongrass water, iced butterfly-pea tea on the veranda.

  2. 2

    Body reading

Ten unhurried minutes with your therapist to map where the tension actually lives.

  3. 3

    The ritual

Your oils blended on the spot, your pressure agreed out loud, the gong left unrung.

  4. 4

    Settling

Rest as long as you like in the garden with jamu and fruit before you rejoin the island.

Guest reflections

Quietly, they keep coming back

A few words from the people who have let our therapists take over for an afternoon.

  • I arrived wound tight from three flights and left feeling like I had been handed back my own body. The boreh scrub is worth the trip to Ubud on its own.

    Annika Lundqvist

    Stockholm, Sweden

    Balinese Boreh Ritual

  • Not a hotel spa performance — real hands, real knowledge. My therapist found the knot my physio had been chasing for a year.

    Daniel Okonkwo

    London, United Kingdom

    Urat Deep Tissue

  • We booked the pavilion for our anniversary. Rain on the palm roof, frangipani in the bath, nobody rushing us. Perfect.

Before you come

Questions we are asked every day

Prices, parking, pick-up and how far ahead to book — answered plainly, for visitors and for neighbours alike.

Where in Ubud are you, and is there parking?

We are on Jalan Raya Sanggingan No. 88, about five minutes north of Ubud market and a short walk from the Neka Art Museum. There is free off-street parking for cars and motorbikes inside the compound, so you do not have to leave anything on the main road.

How much does a Balinese massage cost here?

A 75-minute Frangipani Aromatherapy massage is IDR 540K and a 90-minute Urat Deep Tissue is IDR 690K. Body rituals start at IDR 320K and the Half-Day Sanctuary is IDR 1,850K. Every price is per guest and already includes the welcome tea, the herbal steam and as long as you like in the garden afterwards — there is no service charge added at the end.

Can I walk in, or do I need to book ahead?

Walk-ins are welcome when a room is free, but we only keep nine rooms and never run them back to back, so afternoons fill quickly in high season. The safest way is to message us on WhatsApp an hour or two ahead — we reply within the hour between 09.00 and 21.00 Bali time.

Do you accept QRIS and cards, or is it cash only?

We accept QRIS, Visa, Mastercard, bank transfer and cash in rupiah. Nothing is charged online when you book — you settle at the sanctuary after your treatment.

Can you collect me from my hotel or villa?

Yes. Complimentary pick-up and drop-off is included for stays within the Ubud area — Sanggingan, Penestanan, Campuhan, Nyuh Kuning and central Ubud. Tell us your hotel or villa name when you book and we will confirm a time. For Canggu, Seminyak or Denpasar we can arrange a driver at cost.

I have never had a Balinese massage. Which one should I book?

Start with the 75-minute Frangipani Aromatherapy: slow, flowing strokes at a pressure you agree with your therapist beforehand. If you have been surfing, trekking or sitting at a desk, the Urat Deep Tissue works firmly along the urat lines instead. Unsure on the day? Your therapist spends ten minutes reading your body before anything begins, and you can still change your mind then.

What languages do your therapists speak?

Our reservations team and therapists speak Indonesian and English, and several also speak Balinese. Kami melayani tamu lokal dan wisatawan setiap hari — silakan menghubungi kami dalam bahasa Indonesia lewat WhatsApp.

What time do you open, and how late is the last booking?

Monday to Friday we are open 09.00 to 21.00, and 08.00 to 22.00 on Saturday and Sunday. The last booking is taken ninety minutes before closing so no ritual is ever rushed.
